Chrysler and General Motors Bankruptcy Effect on Lemon Law Claims

On April 30th, 2009 Chrysler, the manufacturer of the Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep brands filed for bankruptcy protection. As part of the bankruptcy protection, Lemon Law proceedings were stayed, meaning they were suspended or put on hold. Chrysler has emerged from bankruptcy and the new “Chrysler” has assumed prior lemon law liability claims.

General Motors filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy on June 1, 2009. General Motors manufactures the Chevrolet, Saturn, Buick, Hummer, Pontiac, Saab, GMC, and Cadillac vehicle brands. General Motors has stated that it will also assume prior lemon law liability claims.
